About

Kefalonia

Kefalonia is the largest and most beautiful island of the Ionian Sea. It has a stunning natural landscape with exotic beaches, picturesque villages, and mysterious caves.

Kefalonia is very mountainous, its highest peak, mount Ainos, reaching an altitude of 1,520 meters; it is the only mountain in the Mediterranean to have a unique fir tree called “Abies kefallia”.

The Island is named after Cephalus, but some think its name means 'an island with a head', because 'Cephalus' comes from the Greek word for 'head'.

Cephalonia is well known for its endangered loggerhead turtle population, also known as the Caretta turtle, which nests on many of the beaches along the south coast of the island.

Local shops

Whether you want wine, cold beer or food then there are a few supermarkets in the village that can supply your needs.

  • Solomos (solomosmarket.gr) is a five-minute walk away and offers a delivery service. Solomos Market provides a wide range of Greek and British products, including wines, fruits, vegetables, and breakfast items.
  • Galaxy is also a five-minute walk away; it has a wider range of household products and a large freezer selection.
  • AB is a larger more upmarket supermarket that is ideal if you have a car. Situated on the main seafront road towards Poros it will have all your needs for food and drink.
  • Lidl. If you have a car and are heading in to Argostoli then Lidl is situated on the main road just outside Argostoli in between the only 3 roundabouts on the island. Beware – not many people know how to use a roundabout so drive with caution!

Lounging at the villa

Now that the beer and wine are chilling in the fridge and the kids have an ice cream it’s time to relax.

The Villa gets sun on the terrace from early morning until evening and then it is still possible to have a drink in the garden to catch its last rays before getting ready to go out.

The outside table and chairs provide a lovely setting for an outside meal. The loungers also allow you to relax without straying too far from the fridge or Wi-Fi.

The sun can get very hot so please feel free to use the large umbrella provided. We would be grateful if you would lower it when it’s not in use please as, whilst it has a heavy base, a gust of wind can damage it or knock it over.

Heading to the pool

Whilst the Villa doesn’t have a pool it is only a short walk from a few of the many hotels that allow free use of their pools, bars and facilities.

The La Skala Vista pool can be seen very close to Villa Maggie (circled).

The Tara Beach (tarabeach.gr) is our personal favourite and has a nearly full size pool with the option of crossing the road to enjoy their beach beds and the sea!
Aerial view of Marietta beach pool
The Marietta is on the main road as you approach the Villa and is only a 3-minute walk away.
